Virtualization and Consolidation

Server virtualization provides enormous benefits through cost savings associated with hardware/systems management, energy costs, and server provisioning. Summex can assist your organization with the process of visualizing and consolidating servers. Our proven virtualization and consolidation process involves a phased approach. The phases of Server Virtualization are:

  • Implement A Scalable Virtual Infrastructure. One of the most important aspects of moving to virtualized environment is to ensure that your virtual infrastructure, operational procedures and processes, and management tools are well implemented.
  • Develop a Server Virtualization Plan. Identify which servers will be targeted, and in what sequence. The focus on this phase to understand the current environment, the "end-state", and to develop a plan for completion. The focus on the early part of the virtualization effort should be on simplicity and cost savings.
  • "P to V" (Physical to Virtual). The next phase of the solution is to move from physical to virtual servers based on the "virtualization map" developed in the previous step.
  • Consolidate Virtual Servers. The last step is to consolidate the virtual servers to a reduced number of physical machines hosting the new, consolidated virtual servers.

Network Security

Summex provides security solutions for all tiers of a network: at the gateways between the network and the outside world, at the servers that act as the network's vital organs, and at end-user devices including desktop PCs, laptops and handhelds.

Integrated security solutions are designed to work together as a unified system, providing better overall protection, quicker response and more efficient management.

Security management solutions, based on an open, standards-based architecture, provide a comprehensive view of security, enabling proactive defense and real-time company-wide response.

Firewall/VPN solutions to protect data and assets without slowing performance.

Intrusion detection solutions that act as a "security force" inside the network to spot intruders that penetrate the outer defenses.

Anti-Virus & Spyware blocking solutions offer critical protection from Internet-borne threats for the desktop through the gateway for individuals all the way up to the largest enterprise. See Virus & Spyware Protection.

Anti-spam solutions filter spam and other undesired messages at the gateway and are critical to an overall E-mail security solution.

Network Maintenance

We look for small errors and warning signs that allow us to address them before they turn into big problems that may cause outages, downtime, and loss of productivity and/or corruption of data.

Larger organizations enjoyed all of these benefits simply by having multiple internal staff members serving as an IT department. Summex provides the same services without the need for the costly overhead of employees.

Managed IT Support

Summex provides mangaged tier 1, 2 & 3 IT support as needed, helping eliminate the expense of your company having an IT in-house staff. Tier 1 support provides basic application software and/or hardware support while Tier 2 provides more complex support and expertise on application software and/or hardware and is usually an escalation of the issue from Tier 1. Tier 3 provides support on complex hardware and network operating system software and usually involves certified systems engineers.
